Absolute Craziness

This past month and a half have been crazy! First off, I am proud to say that I've lost.....wait for it.....7 lbs so far!!! I now weigh 164! Super exciting! Steve and I also joined a gym, which I've been trying to get to at least 3 times a week, which is working out really well, even with teaching.

Speaking of teaching, I can't believe I've only been in my classroom for 3 and a half weeks! I feel like I've been there so much longer just because of how much I feel I have learned and grown while I have been there. It's amazing. I love each and every one of my kids, even though we have our problems and behavior has been a little rough. I've never loved to get up in the morning and go to a job like I do when I'm teaching. Not to say I don't have problems getting out of bed, hahaha. I'll be honest, I would love to sleep in!!!! But I don't mind being at school one bit! I even love it. =)

It's getting late for this old lady to be up. Better go get some sleep!

One week in...

So, I am one week in to eating healthier and trying to work out. I can report that I am now at 169lbs! Yayay!

We spent the weekend in Vegas, which gave me a chance to do a lot of walking, but it was hard to find healthy meals while I was there. So I watched my portions (for the most part) and did what I could. It was so much fun though! We got to more hotels that I haven't been to yet - Luxor, Mandalay Bay, MGM, and the Stratosphere. So that was a lot of fun. We took part in the CSI Experience at MGM too. Anyway, it was fantabulous! And I didn't even lose that much money!! Wooooo!

Today I actually got to go to my school and spend a little time there. It was interesting. I've never been at an urban school before, but it was great to meet all of the students and see what a typical morning is like there. I officially start on January 23rd, so I am very excited for that! Well, let's be honest. I'm sort of terrified as well. I mean, I'm used to teaching like one subject, so I think I might be ok the first 2 weeks, but I'm more scared of doing more subjects and teaching all day. Mostly because it's something I've never done before. But I'm sure I'll get through somehow.

I am also working on finishing up wedding planning!!! Yayay! Hopefully we'll be done soon and I will have nothing left to worry about! Here's to hoping!

Puppies Loved and Lost and Other Happenings

I know I haven't updated my blog in FOREVER, but I figured it's a new year why not try again? Unfortunately my purpose for blogging has changed. We were unable to keep our little Dukie Bear due to his high separation anxiety and constant barking when we were not home. We tried everything that we could to help our little guy but in the end nothing worked out. We gave Dukie back to BBR and I'm glad to say that he's found a new home. Hopefully he is happy where he is. We miss him very much.

This semester I'm going to be student teaching. Yay! A 5th grade urban placement and an 8th grade suburban placement. I am psyched. I met with my teacher again today and I am very excited to start working with her. She seems extremely positive and I think I will be able to learn a lot from her. Next Tuesday I will be going in to see how their days run and help out with the students, which I can't wait to do! My official start date will be January 23rd. It almost can't get here fast enough.

Along with student teaching this semester I am also continuing my classes. 1 last class will get me through my program, so that will be wonderful. I'm a little leery about the work load, but what can you do? I guess I will just have to get crazy organized! (Can anyone help with that?!)

Since it is a New Year I am also going to start my weight loss journey (again). I'm hoping having a blog will keep me a little more accountable and also that my upcoming wedding will help motivate me to lose the weight I intend to get rid of and keep off! Go me! As of this morning I weigh....171 lbs. It made me really sad to see this, as I haven't been this size for at least 6 years now. But I know I just need to get to work, eat better, and start exercising and I can work it off!

This weekend we are going to Las Vegas for a short vacation. Yay! I'll have to attempt to be somewhat good out there. I'm definitely looking forward to getting out of this cold weather for a while. That is for sure. I'll update about vacation when I get back and hopefully I will have some fun pictures to go along with it.

Duke's First Bath!

It's been a while since I last updated about our little Dukie Bear (Steve's nickname for Duke). He is finally getting settled in the house with us, which is very exciting. What a little love bug we've gotten. He's so very sweet and loves to be pet and get everyone's attention. =) He travels in the car very nicely, takes snack very gently, but man is he a little scavenger!!! Lol. I never would have imagined how much our little guy loves food. He must take after his mama. ;) Steve absolutely loves and adores him. They semi-play together. Duke will roll on his back for Steve to give him tummy scratches when he gets home from work. When Steve runs down the hall Duke will bound after him. It's the most adorable thing I've seen.

Tonight we gave Duke his very first bath! It took a few tries and a little coaxing to get Duke into the shower, but he got in all on his own. He sat patiently while we bathed him and did not fuss once. I think his favorite part was when we dried him, aka loved him with towels. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't mind a good rub down like that all of the time. Lol! Here are some pictures from his bath tonight.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! (Belated that is..) I've been so busy with the holidays and things have been crazy this past week. So here's an update finally!

We met Dee last Tuesday at a Petco near my parent's house. You could tell she was a spunky little girl right off the bat. She greeted us, coming over and sniffing us. What a cute little thing! Then Steve and I reached down to pet her and she started barking. It startled me quite a bit. Karen, Dee's foster mom, gave Steve a treat to give to Dee so she would warm up to him. He tried petting her again and she grumbled at him which made me nervous. She was quite a spit fire. We took her on a walk around the store and off she went! She was good on the leash for us, mostly Steve. We asked Karen about her behavior with kids, other dogs, etc. We found out that she is food aggressive (Steve says that's just like me!) so we would have to feed her separately. We thanks Karen and her husband for bringing Dee up to meet us and then did a little puppy shopping. After we bought some doggie essentials we had lots to think about so we headed to my parent's place and cooked dinner for them. =)

After Steve and I did some talking we decided that Duke would be best in our little family. So, I called Suzanne (I had been calling her Susan this whole time....oops!!) yesterday and left her a message when she did not answer. We were hoping to pick Duke up tonight or tomorrow and get some time in with him and get him accustomed to his new home while someone will be home more than not. Especially since I am on break and have a few more hours in my day. =)

I was out at Target today when Suzanne called me back. She said that she was so happy that we were interested in adopting Duke. Apparently he has been with BBR for the past 4 years. My poor little puppy! She also said that we would only need to pay a fraction of the cost, since he will be coming due for shots and vet check up in February. She said that she would bring him by tonight after she picked him up from boarding. I was sooooooo excited! So I ran to the pet store asap to pick up Duke some dog food and goobies. =) Did I mention I was totally freaking out?! I scoured the pet store for what I needed then headed to JoAnn fabric to pick up a zipper for Duke's bed.

Once home, I hurried to wash Duke's bowls and put his food away. I finished making his bed and got his basket with toys out for him. Everything was set and all I had to do was wait for my Duke. Once Susan got here, Duke rushed right in the house and started up the stairs. While Duke looked around and grunted at Suzanne, I filled out his paperwork and signed the adoption papers. And that was pretty much it!

Duke has only been with me for a few short hours. It has been filled with separation anxiety, naps, a potty trip outside, and lots of love. Speaking of, my little guy is up! Must run! I'll update more once he gets settled in. =D

Holiday Blues

They say that the holidays are the worst when you've lost someone. I never realized how much it was true until this year. I find myself thinking about Christmas and wanting to cry, strangely enough. After losing both Briar and Belfie, I knew that Christmas was going to be hard but I never thought it was going to be this rough. Belfie's been gone for 7 and a half months and Briar for a month and a half and Christmas has never been harder. I keep thinking about how this time of year I would be home from college lounging about all day with my babies eating Christmas cookies and watching Christmas movies or wrapping gifts and trying to keep all the puppy fur out of the presents. I think about how I miss their fat little faces and kissing them and loving on them.

Although they're gone, I know they were hard at work at getting my family Christmas gifts. They managed to wrangle my mom and dad a new little monster for Christmas, named Moses. A two and a half month old Saint Bernard. Moses is also a gift to me since he is my new sibling. =) And they did even more than that for me. This year for Christmas I'll be rescuing a senior of my own and I thank my little angels for helping me get him or her as fast as things have gone.

So while I'm missing my babies and trying not to be so blue, I'll just have to remember all of the happy memories and gifts they've given me. Merry Christmas my little angels. Sissy loves you and misses you.
